What's All This Then?

My wife and I are going on a 35 day cruise. Yes, I said 35. It will obviously be the biggest thing we ever do, so I decided to share my thoughts on the planning, and eventually the cruise and ports itself as it happens. I'll hopefully be uploading some photos as well.

ALL OF THE PICTURES HAVE NOW BEEN UPLOADED.

Day 6–At sea, Why Sleeping In Is Good

Went to sleep around midnight, and slept like a rock. So much so that when I finally checked my watch it was 11 AM. Crap! What happened?! I bounced out of bed feeling 100% better, and went about the usual “chores.” I was cleaning up when Neesh came back and told me they reset the video poker progressive. Damn, it was up to nearly $1400 last night. Well, says I, I’m going to ask someone if someone won it or they reset it because it was too high. “No you won’t,” says she. Heh? It dawned on me. “You won it?!” Plop goes a wad of cash. Hell yeah! She got bored waiting for me to get up so she played for a while. It pays to sleep in.

We got our itinerary changes firmed up today for the most part. We’re trying to beat some high winds now in order to dock at Rekjavik, hopefully by 2 PM tomorrow (Saturday). The original revised schedule was early evening. So much flux. In any case, assuming we can get into the port, we’ll be there until Monday at 1 PM, then off to Djupivogur a day early, another day at sea, then the add-on port of Molde, Norway, which is supposed to be highly regarded, so there’s our bonus. Then we’re back on schedule at Geiranger the next day.

Wind and sea have calmed down a fair bit, now only 30 knots, and the seas at maybe 6 feet. Hard to tell from high up.

View from the balcony – day 6. There’s fog out there, trust me.Caught some blue in the wake, at least.

Went down to the Front Desk AGAIN and complained about the A/C. I said it doesn’t need adjustments, it’s flat out broken. All the way to hot, and cool air coming out. HELLO? As I was venting, one of the other ladies came up. “Mr. Saltmarsh, did you lose this photo?” “Uhhh, yeah, gee thanks!” with a smile on my face. I then said (still smiling) “how dare you give me this and make me smile, I’m in the middle of a complaint!” We all laughed, but I was vehement that this is ridiculous, it’s completely broken, and I don’t care if it’s comfortable sometimes, other times it’s not. More promises. At about 4:00 in the cabin, though, I head this whoosh of air, and lo and behold, I feel heat. Thank you, for crying out loud! So that’s now behind us. Assuming it will do something other than heat at full blast.

Big highlight tonight was I sang at karaoke (if you call that a big event). No one ran screaming out of the place. I saw Randy and Deen and was telling Randy he should get up. Deen looked at me and said “Don’t encourage him. I will hunt you down and kill you” whilst lifting her cane. My smiling response was “I know about the cane, it hurts!” These folks are so awesome.

Another hour ahead tonight, so another early/not so early night in. I hope we settle on a time zone for a few days soon. Smile
