What's All This Then?

My wife and I are going on a 35 day cruise. Yes, I said 35. It will obviously be the biggest thing we ever do, so I decided to share my thoughts on the planning, and eventually the cruise and ports itself as it happens. I'll hopefully be uploading some photos as well.

ALL OF THE PICTURES HAVE NOW BEEN UPLOADED.

Day 25–Seyðisfjörður, Iceland

Yeah, I still can’t pronounce it. The ð is “th” and this does not roll off the tongue. This is another town at the end of a fjord and I woke up in time to see us go in. I was feeling decent, so I was hoping the cold was progressing quickly. It was another scenic journey with the bonus of the sun coming out as we got close.

We got off right away, and loved it immediately. Extremely small and quiet. You could stand in the street for 10 minutes and not get run over. There wasn’t a lot to see, and the technical museum wasn’t open yet. I did manage to get a locally made sweater which will be good for those below zero winter days. As I was checking out, one of the ladies at the counter pointed to another and said, “she made that!” That was a pretty cool moment. April asked later if I got a picture of her and the sweater. I didn’t, but it was a great idea.

We also went into a church that was open to the public, aptly named the Blue Church, as it was blue inside and out.

After an hour or so, we went back to the ship, but not before I inquired at the tourist office about a hiking map. What the guy pointed out was a map with the entire fjord being about 1.5 inches long on a map that was about 15 x 20”. Ummm, I need something a little more local, so he pointed out a trail that wasn’t shown on the town map called the waterfall trail. Hmmm, that sounds good, so I went back to the room and set off. That’ll be covered in another post.

I got my sweaty self back and went straight to the Crow’s Nest and got a bottle (not a can) of beer to take back to the room. After a warm hike, a cold Grolsch hit the spot. With the cold I had, I had a feeling this exertion was going to come back to haunt me either tonight or tomorrow.

I showered and we went up the Crow’s Nest for the sail away. Poor Neesh, I left her every few minutes to run right outside for more pictures, but it was worth it.

We went to a ventriloquist show, and walked out after 13 minutes. The pace was horrible, and he was just not that funny to boot. Up to the Nest for some cold medicine (Jameson’s) and I had a nice conversation with the bassist from the house band, who was from Montreal. He told me of a high mountain 1.5 hours north of Montreal. Hmmm, need to check that out.
