What's All This Then?

My wife and I are going on a 35 day cruise. Yes, I said 35. It will obviously be the biggest thing we ever do, so I decided to share my thoughts on the planning, and eventually the cruise and ports itself as it happens. I'll hopefully be uploading some photos as well.

ALL OF THE PICTURES HAVE NOW BEEN UPLOADED.

Every time I think I’m caught up…

…being behind just sucks me back in. We went into the Big City (alright, alright, it was only Concord) last weekend and I finally got a decent selection of dressier clothes, a new suit and I apparently found my clothing fetish. Ties. I appear to love cool looking ties. Mind you, I wear one maybe 3 times a year, but there it is. So I now have about 8 coming with me. I might actually look like a respectable human being. At least that’s the theory.

So I thought I was finally done with the shopping. Not quite. I pulled the trigger on a handheld scanner, something I’ve always wanted. Now I can eavesdrop on the ship operations. Being an inquisitive engineer (redundant?) I’ve always been fascinated by what goes on behind-the-scenes. If I’m at a show and can see any part of backstage, that’s where my focus is. So that’s how you turn “nosey” into “inquisitive.” Remember what I said about “cheap” and “frugal?”

OK, so really, I’m done now, right? I’m supposed to be saving money, not spending it. Geez, the antenna that came with the scanner is pretty weak, might as well a better one. Oh wait, I also need some more rechargeable batteries. OK, NOW I’m done! Shoot, I still need a watch battery, brown shoes, and a power strip. On and on and on. I’ll probably end up buying a spare engine for the ship before this is done. Not sure how it’ll fit into a suitcase though.

So then there’s work. I keep saying “OK, everything should be good by the time I leave” and that immediately goes out the window with another issue cropping up. Why can’t things just go smoothly. Just once. Pleeeeeeeeease? Ya right. I sense some extra hours and days coming up soon. I think my work laptop might, ahem, accidentally fall overboard somewhere off the coast of Newfoundland.

It’s a rainy day (actually weekend), so I bailed on a planned hike. About 3 weeks ago I climbed a trail-less peak in soaked, chilly woods. To boot, the woods lived up to it’s bad reputation of being thick and blowdown-infested, and it was steep. I finally found my mental limit. No desire to repeat that today in similar conditions. Sigh. What to do, what to do? Hmmm, I could start packing. With $7/day unlimited laundry, let it wrinkle! Already have one suitcase full with a bunch of stuff still left. Plus I need room to haul goodies back. This could get ugly. At least I have a decent head start on that. I hope the limo has good shocks.

Six weeks left as of today. I’m looking forward to next Saturday, as this will be the 5 week point for a 5 week cruise. It’ll be fun to think about all the time that will pass getting ready will be all that time we will actually be on the ship. Ya, baby!
